How to Get Flash to Work for Firefox in Ubuntu

Date August 3, 2009

Just learned that one of the reasons why many people are not totally happy with Ubuntu is the lack of support for flash in Ubuntu’s built-in browser Firefox. Basically the flash plugin is not there and you have to manually install it. However, because there are several plugins available people get confused and most often pick the wrong plugin and end up still having trouble view flash videos and movies even after installing the plugin. If you have problems viewing flash in your Firefox in Ubuntu, please read on…

First, you need to read this page and install the correct plugin.

If this still does not help you, you need to read this “Comprehensive Multimedia & Video Howto” posted on the Ubuntu forum. I personally tried many other ways but I find this Comprehensive Howto is the best. It helps solve many other problems for my computer running Ubuntu. I go through these instructions whenever I install Ubuntu fresh on a computer. Each time they work, whether it is for 386 machines or AMD64 machines. So I highly recommend it to all who like Ubuntu because of its security but not fully satisfied because of audio/video issues.
