What Is the Easiest Way to Build a Website?
January 30, 2008
What I share here may not be the only answer to building a website fast, but it is what works for me the best.
Right click Google Ad link to see how to open it in new tab or window of your browser
I have been a webmaster since the year 2000 and I have tried all the following ways to build websites:
- Using FrontPage Express – that was how I started and I believe it was true for most others as it was the first free way
- Tried using several HTML authoring programs which I could not recall their names. I did that because I found FrontPage Express produces too many redundant codes which are totally unnecessary.
- Having a hard time finding a single program that creates a page with very clean HTML codes, I switched to several HTML text editor which allows me to construct websites from scratch with HTML codes only. My favorite one, the one I am still using for editing webpages occasionally, is Author Smith’s Top Dawg HTML Editor which allows me to produce a set of HTML codes with a few clicks – his website is no longer available
- Creating a website from scratch using HTML source codes only is very time-consuming. Then I find an FrontPage alternative called XSitePro which is a WYSIWYG offline HTML authoring program that has search engine optimization (SEO), site uploading and many other features built in it. I still use it for designing my website template only as I prefer a completely online solution.
- I tried several online builders, including the one we provide to our cPanel web hosting customers, but most them require that I use Micorsoft’s Internet Explorer (IE) to be able to use it – I am a fan of the Firefox browser!
- What do I use the mostly often? You guess it right, WordPress (WP) blog script, the one I am using right now – what you are reading is served by the WP blog script! It is very easy to use and it is always online – I can use it wherever I go and I just need to enter the admin login info to be able to use it. What about SEO of the WP blogs? I use this WP plugin to optimize my blog for search engines. Note that if you get your website hosted with us at www.SelfWebHosting.com, you can get WordPress installed on your website (in document root or any folder of your choice) using cPanel’s Fantastico or DirectAdmin’s Installatron script autoinstaller with just a few mouse clicks. The following is a list of websites that I built with WordPress:
- There are other online scripts I use to construct a website, like Joomla script that you can install with a few mouse clicks on your website from cPanel’s Fantastico or DirectAdmin’s Installatron script autoinstaller. The following is a link to a website I built for Heromin Machinery Canada Ltd using the Joomla script:
http://albertasinkgallery.com
http://abgranito.ca
http://autofuelsaving.com
http://gifttime.info
However, I still like WP the most. With its “Write and Manage Page” function in WP, I can construct a page and then it automatically appears in the menu area. I can set the Home page as the default page, just like any of the regular websites out there, rather than the most recent post or 5-something most recent posts listed on the default home page.
P.S. Avoid using HTML frames in building any website as it is definitely a SEO no-no!

Update (March 22, 2009): Looks like many other people have seen the potential and ease of using WordPress and they have developed products around it. One is called Expert Wordpress which I have reviewed here – it is basically a working and search-engine-optimized blog that is reverse engineered. Another one is Affiliate Theme that was recently pushed out by the team of Unique Blog Designs. Unlike Expert WordPress, Affiliate Theme focuses on professional designs of its WordPress theme, making it easy for everyone to design a professionally looking website or landing page using their system, which is really a normal WP theme that has the easy-to-use design capability built in. Note that Affiliate Theme has also had the SEO built in its system.

[...] Building one of these sites is simple, once you have the script (a WordPress plugin) that Neil’s programmers created for him, and a carefully chosen datafeed. As you probably already know, WordPress is a delight to use and that is my easiest way of building websites. [...]
